This year's English Service Camp is in food paradise non other than MELAKA. Wow.. To many of us, it is really "stuff yourself with all the food you want". We eat at 8am, 10am, 1pm, 3pm, 6pm and 10pm.. It's the 'fuller' gospel church. Besides having all the physical food, we also receive a lot spiritually.
The camp speaker for this year is Pastor Mark Geppert, the theme is "From Success to Significant".
Success... How do we define success in the world's term? Having a lot of money? Having a good reputation? Having high prestige? Having a wonderful family? NOTICE... In the world's term of success, it is about HaVing, HAviNG, HAVING...
BUT.....
Significant.. How can we be significant? It is by GIVING.. 2 Corinthians 9:11 - You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
The key to be significant is to GIVE. This verse really touches me and it has never come across to me as this. We will be make RICH so that we can GIVE generously so that God will be GLORIFIED.
There are many needs over the world. In Tibet, every child is born with a hole in the heart and because of the altitude there, this hole will not close by itself and they need to go through operation if not they will die in their teenage. Each operation will cost USD 1000. In Thailand, many young girls and boys in their childhood are sold into prostitution because they are poor. In Cambodia, there are many orphans and schools are needed. All these needs in the world will need funds. Who is going to fund these needs?
According to the above verse, WE are the one who is suppose to fund these programs because WE will be made rich in everyway (not to enjoy ourselves) but to GIVE generously so that people will be bless and give thanks to God.
But before we are made rich, 2 Corinthians 9:6 - Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. We need to sow first with the little we have then we will reap a harvest.
This camp really changes my mindset. I use to think that I just need enough money to survive but Pastor Mark said that this is a selfish thought because we don't want to be responsible for the people out there.
In this Christmas season, let us embrace the spirit of Christmas to GIVE just as God gave His son for us. Let us be generous in our giving. Amen??
