Gideon's 300 - testimony by Wayne

I arrived at Davao airport on a bright sunny morning embarking on a never done before and never expected journey into the mission field of Samal Island. A truly remarkable trip because it was my first mission trip and definitely not the last one. I did not know what to expect from a mission. From my impression of ‘Mission’, it like building houses for people, planting churches and etc. little did I know, I did none of those. However the things I done there were amazing.

Firstly, I was given a chance to hold over 70000 worth of currencies, never in my life will I ever hold so much money (peso). I would like to thank God for placing me in a good team and having a good leader. In the group I was given many tasks to do which I think it was not well done because I did not do enough preparations.

One of the best parts of the camp was Outbound Adventure Camp. There I learnt to give someone trust and to trust and depend on someone in the first section Free Fall. God always want us to have faith and to trust and depend on Him. There I trusted and depended on my group and I did not break my neck. It just shows me that if we depend and trust in Him, we will never fall and break. God is always assuring that He is there. God also want us to succeed but if He reaches His hands and we don’t reach out and pull our self up we will never go past an obstacle just like how I climb up a 12 feet wall. I learnt that there is nothing in this world that is impossible without God. ‘Problem I have a big God’ is what I learnt and it will remain in me. God will always be the play the major role in His God-sized assignment and we will play the minor role. All we have to do is to reach for Him.

The other that carved a deep impression was the visitation to Samal National High School. On the first day, I ask a couple of students what problems do they have, I was dumbfounded when they told me about Financial problem and these kids are between 13 to 18 years old. Suddenly, I felt like sharing about ‘Dream’ with the class, but I did not have a chance until the second day visitation. The next day I took up half an hour to share about ‘Having a big dream’ and working towards it. For some reasons, none of the things I shared with them are things that I had accomplished. However I hoped that whatever I shared did impact them. Many things I did during this mission, I believe it was not done by me. I was only doing the minor role of communicating with the people and God is working on the major role of writing out the scripts. It will be an unforgettable trip.

I really hope that I can go back there to meet up with the people and the students I talked to.
